How to play Flag evolution

Countries change their flags after revolutions, unions and new constitutions. In this game you see a country’s flags shuffled and drag them, or use the arrow buttons, into the order they were used. In the second mode you see a single flag and choose the years it was flown.

What you learn

• How Germany’s flags followed its history: empire, republic, dictatorship, division and reunification.
• Why Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Rwanda and others changed their flags, and when.
• How the years a flag was in use can differ from when a state was founded.

Can I play without dragging?

Yes: every flag has “earlier” and “later” buttons, and the game works fully with a keyboard.

Is there a timer?

Flag evolution is untimed by default. You can switch a timer on before you start.
